A Quieter Day

Friday was quieter day and for us it was rounded off with a second visit to the Antica Trattoria.

We walked there and back, a good 40-45 minutes' walk if you take the short cut along the road from the Costa Sal rather than along the sea front.   As always, it meant we got our steps in, but the leg muscles and feet were starting to sense some wear and tear by the time we got back.

The screenshot from my phone says it all, really.  A lovely temperature day or night with sunny days ahead.  I've often wondered if the locals ever actually get bored with the weather!

On our way back we really noticed how all those inconspicuous, apparently unexciting places above the bright shops fronts suddenly come to life at night.  Something to explore on our next visit for sure.

Along the front to Playa Honda

On Thursday we decided to venture along towards Playa Honda and Arrecife.

You can walk all along the sea shore to Playa Honda and beyond, but we thought that might be a walk too far!

Our journey passed a lovely play area where James had a go on the swings and other play items. We also passed the Beatriz Playa Hotel and the end of the runway, so we got up close and personal with planes coming in to land.

At the end we came back and stopped off at the much-recommended Aussie's Beach Bar.

Wednesday saw us take the plunge and walk along the sea front to Puerto del Carmen itself.

The forecast suggested it would be the last day when there would be any cloud cover, with the remaining days of our stay set to be full sun only.

It's quite a long walk but we're always happy to "get our steps in" so off we went.  The biggest surprise was to see that the Avenida de las Playas has been re-formatted into a one way route for much of the best bits of it with an extended walkway and a separate lane for cyclists and eScooters.

It was great to see some of our old haunts and the way in which the tourist environment in this area continues to undergo improvements at the expense of vehicle traffic.

The highlight of our day was lunch at one of our most favourite watering holes - the Antica Trattoria de Verona.  The only small fly in the ointment for yours truly is that swordfish is now off the menu, but their Pizza Napoletana is still something else!
